You Know What’s Worse Than Six Weeks Of Sickness? Morning Sickness On Top Of It!

February 13, 2018 By: Karen D.

I envy people who make fancy and adorable pregnancy announcements, but even under the best of circumstances, that’s just not who I am. Right NOW, we have hit six weeks of the whole family being sick (there was the flu, which turned into pnuemonia for Nathan, then an epic stomach virus that led to explosive diarrhea scattered throughout the house and lots of laundry for me to do, and then another cold that knocked us into seclusion for a week) and I found out I was finally pregnant right when that all started (and right when I thought I couldn’t take any cold medicine. I’ve come to find out that’s not true, but too late now!). The timing wasn’t ideal, but sometimes that’s just the way it goes! 😉

So for anyone who has been waiting for me to respond to an email or complete a task or just be involved in something . . . . the excuse I gave you for not getting it done was still legit (I HAVE been sick!) but I’ve just been an EXTRA kind of sick on top of that! 😉

Coming October 8th! The little circle on the left is the egg yolk sac, and the blob on the right is the baby itself. J thinks the baby looks like a turtle, but I’m convinced we just have another baby who doesn’t want to pose for photos! This was the best photo after multiple attempts at a better angle.

Morning sickness usually starts for me at about 5 weeks and I’m approaching 9 weeks pregnant now, so we haven’t had a chance to actually enjoy the idea of being pregnant since we’ve been so busy dealing with germs and bodily fluids and feeling dreadful. But this was something we planned for and are very excited about, and I’m sure at some point down the line we’ll eventually be healthy again (it HAS to happen, right? We can’t keep getting back-to-back viruses for FOREVER!). We’ll look and act more excited when that day finally comes 😉

Emily doesn’t have a clue what is going on but Nathan is definitely more aware this time around. I’ve been explaining to him that Mama is growing a baby in her belly so he needs to be gentle (he has a tendency to use my stomach as leverage to stand up if he’s sitting next to me on the couch!), so he frequently asks me how the baby is doing and if it’s still growing. He also frequently tells me that he is growing a baby in his tummy, too, so we’re beginning to venture into new anatomy and reproductive discussions! I foresee some pretty hilarious public announcements from him at some point, based on the conversations we’ve had so far 😉 But at this point he is in favor of having a baby brother or sister, and I am hoping he’ll keep up the positive attitude.

But now if you’ll excuse me, typing this up has used most of my daily allotment of energy and it’s time to go lie down for a bit. Growing a baby is EXHAUSTING! 😉
