If you plan on moving abroad, or if you just want to broaden your knowledge on the topic, make sure to read our list of the coldest capital cities in the world. Yes, you will definitely need to read more about things such as furnaces, air conditioning, or anything else that will make you warmer if you decide to live in one of these cities. On the other side, knowing that these cities may be cold as ice should definitely not affect your decision to visit them or even live in them, as some of them are so beautiful and breathtaking. Some of these cities might surprise, while some of them you would definitely expect on the list. This is definitely the coldest capital city in the world, as the average annual temperature is only -1.3°C. Imagine how cold it may get throughout the year, and make sure to take this into consideration if you decide to visit it.

  1. Astana (Kazakhstan)

The capital city of Kazakhstan is a little bit warmer than the previous one, as the average annual temperature is around 3.5 °C, but it’s still considered one of the coldest capital cities in the world. Winter months are incredibly cold in Astana, as the temperatures reach the incredible 30 to -35 °C.

Moscow is a beautiful city, and definitely worth visiting. If you ever read some of the famous Russian novelists, you would get the impression that it’s always cold outside, which is true, as the average annual temperature is only 4.1°C.

Similarly like in the previous one, Helsinki is also one of the coldest capital cities in the world. The average annual temperature is 4.5°C. Helsinki had its incredibly low temperature on January 10, 1987, reaching 34.3 °C.

This city is definitely a must visit, as it will definitely impress you with many things. However, make sure to bring warmer clothes, as the average annual temperature goes around 4.6°C. This city had its lowest temperature of −19.7 °C, recorded on January 30, 1971.

It would definitely be interesting to visit this city, as it is very beautiful, but in case you want to spend some time there, don’t forget that the average annual temperature is only 4.8°C.
